Local public-safety resources
Thornton Smoke & CO Alarm Resources
Detector Inspectors provides paid residential maintenance and replacement. Thornton-area public agencies also provide education and, for qualifying residents, assistance programs.
City of Thornton guidance
Thornton Fire Department guidance tells residents to test smoke alarms monthly, replace units older than ten years and use daylight-saving changes as a battery reminder. The city also describes assistance for eligible residents.
North Metro Fire program
North Metro Fire Rescue District publishes smoke and CO alarm guidance and offers battery-powered alarms at no charge to residents who are financially unable to provide one for their home. Contact the district directly for current eligibility and availability.
Emergency versus maintenance
Call 911 for a sounding smoke or CO alarm, signs of fire, suspected carbon monoxide or symptoms. Call Detector Inspectors for planned battery replacement, cleaning, testing, inspection and replacement.
Choose the right path
A paid service visit is not the only route for every household. If cost is a barrier, start with the public programs. The goal is working protection, not a particular provider.
